Activities
Unimax Macmillan
has been actively involved in developing local authorship skills not
only in creative writing but in other areas like educational textbooks
as well. We solicit for authors and commission them to write on specific
subjects. This involves quite a lot of research. We from time to time
conduct research into areas where books are needed. We then look for
local authors who are experts in those subject areas, commission them
to write, work in collaboration with them in the preparation of the
manuscript and publish books to fill vital areas.
As part of the programme
to fulfil the educational needs of the country, we organise seminars/
workshops for existing, new or prospective writers from time to time.
The purpose is to recruit new local writers to produce stories for some
of our series like the Pacesetter Novels, the Ready Go and Hop Step
Jump Readers.
Macmillan played
a pioneering role in the developing authorship skills in such areas
as Mathematics (T.Q. Armah) and English (Service Addo). We collaborate
with various subject associations and bodies in the preparation of textbooks.
For example in the preparation of the SSS GAST Science Books, we worked
in collaboration with the Ghana Association of Science Teachers. Similarly,
we collaborated with the Teacher Education Division of the Ghana Education
Service (GES), the British Overseas Administration and UNICEF in the
publication of Mathematics for Teacher Training in Ghana. We also Collaborated
with UNICEF in the publication of Mosquito the killer. Click
